Quins Colts go 3-0 at Fort Worth Sevens Tournament
04.23.07
Colt Play Excellent in Ft. Worth!
The Day started off with the Quins taking the field against Allen without any reserves. Early in the game, Taulbee Hazel picked the ball off a ruck and touched it down in the corner to give the Quins a 5-0 lead. Penalties against the Quins barred another two tries before half. A breakdown in the back line allowed a try to Allen to give them a 7-5 lead at the break. With the ball in Allen’s half, the Quins still had not scored with time running out. An offload to Alec Carrion resulting in a try gave the Quins a 10-7 lead as the ref blew full time.
In the second game, the Colts controlled the tempo against Fort Worth from the opening kick-off. With the opposing winger out of position, Dylan Carrion booted an up-and-under to the open space which Will Klindworth recovered and headed to the corner flag for a try. Later in the half, Taulbee Hazel took an offload and dashed into the in-goal for a 12-0 lead. Plano’s scrumhalf, Tyler Shaw, who was helping Fort Worth in the game, scored on an up-and-under to himself before half making the score 12-7. An eventless second half ended with Alec Carrion taking the ball off the base of a scrum out side the twenty-two putting a move on the last defender giving him a clear path to put the ball down between the posts securing a 19-7 win.
The final game was against Coppell who had also won all of their games so far. In the first half, the ball was spun out to David Keane who won a footrace into the in-goal for a 5-0 lead. Prince Ohiagu added another try before the half. With a 12-0 second half lead, a penalty was to the Quins and a quick tap was given to Alec Carrion. Coppell set up a pod to stop the banger when Alec chipped the ball over their defensive line and recovered his own kick for a try finishing the game 19-0 and the Quins had their first shutout of the day.
Although Plano scored the most points of the day, they lost to Alliance who failed to beat Bishop Dunne, leaving the Quins as the only undefeated team of the tournament.
Quins Colts Kingsley Arinze and Dylan Carrion who are also eligible for under-15, played for Plano in their under-15s match against Alliance. In the ten minute period that they played, Dylan scored three tries while they both made many tackles and the two were the team’s main contributors in the rucks.
