Quin Colts Overwhelm Panther City RFC 03.09.05

Harlequins Colts 61 - Panther City RFC 0

Match report by Michael Engelbrecht

The Colts continued their assault of the scoreboard by posting a 61-0 final tally against a stubborn but outgunned Panther City RFC in a Cup bout Wednesday night in Keller. In total, nine tries were scored on the night with eight of them being converted. Outside Center Victor Cadena scored four tries, for the second time in two straight cup matches, to take his personal tally in cup play to 11 in four games. Quite an achievement!

On the night a very solid performance was put in by the tight five with Tight-head prop Benton Krause being the anchor of the unit. The tight five were dominant in set play and effective using the “pick and go” to put the Panther City defense on the back foot. Krause has been unmatched this year in the scrums, puts in jaw clenching tackles, and is fully committed to putting his body to effective use at the rucks.

The Colts backline is very dangerous from set play but even more dangerous in broken play. Quick ball is fed to Cadena for the inevitable try, and the counter-attacking of Tich Jangano, whether at wing or fullback, is sure to either result in a try or obtain lots of ‘oohs” and “aahs” from the crowd. Jangano’s elusive running, eye for the opportunity, and field positioning frequently is the catalyst to moving the Colts out of their territory and deep into the oppositions. Both Cadena and Jangano had the back defense of Panther City at “sixes and sevens” for most of the night.

Mention must also be made of the Colt substitutes. The Colts are in the best position possible this year as there is a lot of depth to the squad. “When our substitutes take the field they are either as good as the player in front of them or come on and make an impact. We have never had this ability in the past,” stated Coach Michael Engelbrecht.
